The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord. The bible is clear that this is an important truth for God's people all around the world.
Exodus 20:8-11 (NIV) “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Here the Sabbath is linked with the work of creation " ....the Lord made the heavens and the earth ..." verse 10. It was the same God who created the 7 day week cycle that instituted the seventh day Sabbath . It was "... made for man," Mark 2:27. IT was the same power of God's word that is at work in creation that is at work on the Sabbath!
What was that power?
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
For he spoke, and it came to be;
he commanded, and it stood firm. Psalms 33:6,9 (NIV)
When God speaks amazing things happen! Creation is the power of God's word. But not only creation recreation! God has promised that the original Sabbath rest will be restored to those who love Jesus. They will be recreated into the image of God! And as Jesus rested in the tomb that Sabbath day the whole universe thought on the wonders of the significance of the death of Jesus Christ!
Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts.”
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. Hebrews 4:6-11 (NIV)
