The 2300 Days Part 1
13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. Daniel 8:13, 14(KJV)
Marvelous is the picture painted for Daniel the prophet. God gave a progressive exposition of the coming climax of the world in the book of the prophet Daniel. God gave to Nebuchadnezzar firstly in Daniel chapter 2, then to Daniel the prophet in chapters 7 and 8 the visions of earth's coming climax.
In Daniel 2 the history of the world; the world ruling kingdoms; presented as metals for the benefit of the king. He longed to understand the future of his kingdom and of the world and God graciously showed him, What a God! In Daniel 7, the prophet saw the kingdoms that should rule the world in their true character; a ravenous beasts.He also see a little horn which assaults the people of God but which is eventually overcome and there is also a judgement scene before Jesus Christ receives His kingdom.
We are now brought tot the scene pf Daniel 8 where the prophet sees a ram and a he-goat. then a little horn comes up more stout than his fellow horns and blasphemes God and the saints and persecutes God's people and interrupts the worship of the true God. Daniel now is deeply troubles by the vision and this brings us to the verses in question.
Lets read from the Revised Standard Version;
13 Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to the one that spoke, “For how long is the vision concerning the continual burnt offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled under foot?”[a] 14 And he said to him,[b] “For two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful state.” Daniel 8:12,13 (RSV)
Daniel was so troubled by the vision of the little horn that he " fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward (he) rose up, and did the king's business; and (he) was astonished at the vision, but none understood it." Daniel 8:27.
But look closely at what was the message of the verses. One saint was speaking to another saint.
“The Hebrew word, Palmoni, is a contracted word. It contains the elements of two Hebrew words. One
is, Pele, and the other is Ma-na. The Hebrew word, Pele, means wonderful. See Isaiah 9:6. The word,
Mana, means numbered. See Daniel 5:25-26. So this contracted Hebrew word, Palmoni, literally means
wonderful numberer. This Wonderful Numberer is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. See Isaiah 9:6. Vance Ferrell "A Biblical Defense of Our Historic Beliefs on the Sanctuary and Hebrews"
So Jesus Christ came and gave Daniel the vision and said that after 2300 days or evenings and mornings then shall the sanctuary be restored to its rightful state. A mission so important that it involved the Eternal Son of God Himself to deliver the message. What was Jesus seeking to teach the prophet and us to whom the ends of this world are come?
