In Matthew 24 Jesus clearly outlines the signs that would precede His coming.
And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? (Matthew 24:1-3)
And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said, As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass? (Luke 21:5-7)
His disciples were anxious to know when the end would come among other things but listen to the Master
Signs at the national level
Nations will angry, there will be strife and devastation in and among nations. There will be a general fear among earths populace about what is coming upon the earth.
You will hear about wars and stories of wars that are coming, but don’t be afraid. These things must happen before the end comes. Nations will fight against other nations; kingdoms will fight against other kingdoms. There will be times when there is no food for people to eat, and there will be earthquakes in different places. (Matthew 24:6,7 NCV)
There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. (Luke 21:25-27 NIV)
The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,
And the time of the dead, that they should be judged,
And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints,
And those who fear Your name, small and great,
And should destroy those who destroy the earth. (Revelation 11:18 NKJV)
Signs in the Social World
Evil will be widespread, It will be cloaked in an apparent reverence for God but deny His power. Wickedness and lawless acts will increase at an astronomical level never seen previously. Simultaneously, individuals will be caught up in material wants and desires loosing all thought or concept of God.
And the love of [f]the great body of people will grow cold because of the multiplied lawlessness and iniquity, ... As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.38 For just as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, [men] marrying and [women] being given in marriage, until the [very] day when Noah went into the ark, And they did not know or understand until the flood came and swept them all away—so will be the coming of the Son of Man. (Matthew 24:12, 37-39 AMP)
But you must realise that in the last days the times will be full of danger. Men will become utterly self-centred, greedy for money, full of big words. They will be proud and contemptuous, without any regard for what their parents taught them. They will be utterly lacking in gratitude, purity and normal human affections. They will be men of unscrupulous speech and have no control of themselves. They will be passionate and unprincipled, treacherous, self-willed and conceited, loving all the time what gives them pleasure instead of loving God. They will maintain a facade of “religion”, but their conduct will deny its validity. You must keep clear of people like this... while wicked and deceitful men will go from bad to worse, deluding others and deluding themselves. (2 Timothy 3:1-5,13 J.B.Philips)
