The Second Coming
The Second Coming has been the hope of the church on earth for many centuries. Many faithful men and women have longed to see their saviour and for the end of this night of suffering and despair.
But with the Scriptures in hand the people of God in these last days are called to be prepared and hasten that coming (Matthew 24: 4; 2 Peter 3:12).
Jesus has warned against deception and given specific instruction concerning the second coming. But First of all Has Our Saviour Promised to come again?
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believein God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places; but if not, I would have told you, because I am going away to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, so that where I am, you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” (John 14:1-4 LEB)
And when He had said this, even as they were looking [at Him], He was caught up, and a cloud received and carried Him away out of their sight. And while they were gazing intently into heaven as He went, behold, two men [dressed] in white robes suddenly stood beside them, Who said, Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing into heaven? This same Jesus, Who was caught away and lifted up from among you into heaven, will return in [just] the same way in which you saw Him go into heaven. (Acts 1:9-11 AMP)
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. (Rev 22:20 NASB)
Jesus Our Lord has promised to come again to receive His children to Himself. What a wonderful thought! all true believers are overjoyed at this because of the pain and misery they have experiences in this lifetime. Not until the character of Christ is fully reproduced in His people will He come (C.O.L 69). But How will He Come? Remember that the adversary, satan will have power at that time to deceive if possible the very elect (God's people who have remained faithful at that time, Revelation 13:8, Matthew 24:24)
So how will our Lord come?
Personally and Visibly (Acts 1:9-22 GNT)
After saying this, he was taken up to heaven as they watched him, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They still had their eyes fixed on the sky as he went away, when two men dressed in white suddenly stood beside them and said, “Galileans, why are you standing there looking up at the sky? This Jesus, who was taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way that you saw him go to heaven.
Every Eye Shall See Him (Revelation 1:7 NRSV)
Look! He is coming with the clouds;
every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him;
and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail.
So it is to be. Amen.
It will be Audible (1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 J.B.Philips)
Here we have a definite message from the Lord. It is that those who are still living when he comes will not in any way precede those who have previously fallen asleep. One word of command, one shout from the archangel, one blast from the trumpet of God and the Lord himself will come down from Heaven! Those who have died in Christ will be the first to rise, and then we who are still living on the earth will be swept up with them into the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And after that we shall be with him for ever.
Therefore Comfort one another with these words, Jesus is coming again soon for the faithful who have kept the word of His patience. May God find us among those faithful ones at that time.
